So many people have sent in their version of the rules that we have decided to start
this new page. If you have a (sensible!) set of rules you'd like to have included, or you would like to comment on
any of the sets of rules shown here, please email:

As always, I will edit for spelling and grammar and paraphrase and abbreviate where necessary.

Mornington Crescent Rules
From Colin
A little thought uncovers a few basic rules (which I can go into without being accused of stirring up the minutiae). Now, these are "suggested" rules, and I welcome any comment people would like to make.
1. The starting station must be randomly selected, possibly using some grid system and the roll of dice or some other randomising process.
2. A move can be initially in any direction.
3. A move must be only one station along an Underground "Tube" line, which the player can select. Obviously if the starting position has only one Tube service, the player has no option but to move along that line. If he/she is at a junction, they can go along any of the lines that serve the station.
4. The players take it in turns to move (obviously).
5. No move can cross an existing "track" of moves. Thus it becomes necessary to mark everyone's succession of moves, possibly by putting tracing paper over the (famous) Underground map and using pencils of different colours for each player. This becomes easier on a computer screen, if anyone can be bothered writing a screen version of the game. The skill of the game then becomes something like the racing game of early computers, where two motorcycles create a maze of tracks with the intention of cutting each other off. This makes it necessary to create a rule that says a player cannot visit the same station twice (even on another line), otherwise one player can encircle the other, which would quickly shorten the game.
6. Obviously, the object of the game is to reach Mornington Crescent before the opposition, whether the players play individually or in pairs.
The rules used on ISIHAC need to be published so that newer listeners can get a clearer idea of what's going on. Let's hear what audience participants have to say about what goes on at the theatre. When enough reports come in, someone can make sense of how the game is played.
Colin
We have noticed that this post has been up for quite a while without a response.
We think Colin is unique in his understanding of the rules - we tried his suggestion at the club and it can
make the game impossibly restricted. For example: North Ealing, Ealing Common, Ealing Broadway... doh!
As far as we can work out no ISIHAC game has ever been played by these rules or anything like them,
for rather obvious reasons.
James, Julian and all at the "Biffy" club.
